2-3 Servo AF Characteristics Case Special

[Case Special] is used to set servo AF characteristics that are optimized for special environments. Choosing this setting this when shooting through a net makes it easier to focus on the subject.

Precautions
・This setting tends to focus on the background more than other options. When not shooting through a net or when shooting small subjects, this setting tends to focus on the background rather than the subject.
・Effects may differ depending on the lens.
・It may be difficult to focus on the subject if the net is particularly dense.

Instructions – Reference

We recommend customizing buttons and selecting [Case Special] only when shooting through nets. [Case Special] can be used when shooting through a net even if a face comes out from the net for a moment.
For details see 5-7.

If you set the AF area to a narrow zone such as one point or expand the AF area when not using whole area AF tracking during Servo AF, the camera may focus on the background rather than the subject if the AF frame slips off the subject when starting AF. Whenever possible, make sure to focus on the center of subject before starting AF.

If you try to use AF on a low-contrast section of the subject through a net when not using whole area AF tracking during Servo AF, the camera may focus in front of the subject. Whenever possible, make sure to focus on areas of the subject with sufficient contrast.

It may be difficult to focus on the subject depending on the AF start position. If this happens, we recommend focusing manually in advance on the background rather than the net.

In cases where the net and subject are far enough apart that when focusing on the subject the net is mostly invisible, [Case Auto] or [Case Manual] is best.
