5-7 Recommended settings for scenes that sometimes include shooting through a net
Customizing the buttons and temporarily setting [Servo AF characteristics] to [Case Special] can make it possible to capture the subject with better precision, whether shooting through a net or not.
Setting [Servo AF characteristics] to [Case Special] makes it easier to focus on subjects through a net, however, the camera tends to focus on the background rather than the subject when not shooting through a net or when photographing small subjects. To continue shooting subjects not through a net, it is best to customize the buttons and switch [Servo AF characteristics] to [Case Special] only when actually shooting through the net.
You can also set [Servo AF characteristics] by customizing buttons for shooting and setting [Switch registered AF function] or [Register/recall shooting function] to the M-Fn2 button, etc.
Button customization example 1
Set [Switch to registered AF function] to the M-Fn2 button or AF-ON button.
Set [Servo AF characteristics] to [Case Special] and tick the box.
Untick the other boxes.

Instead of manually changing camera settings each time you shoot, you can switch to a setting that makes it easy to focus on subjects through nets while pressing the button only.
Please note that the live-view display will not change while the button is being pressed.
Button customization example 2
Set [Register/recall shooting function] to the AE lock button.
Set [Servo AF characteristics] to [Case Special] and tick the box.
Tick the [AF operation] box.
Untick the other boxes.

You can activate AF operations using the AF-ON button when not shooting through a net, and with the AE lock button for scenes through a net. It is especially recommended for those who usually start AF with the AF-ON button.
[Case Special] can be used when shooting through a net, such as volleyball games, even if a face leaves the net for a moment.
