5-1-3 Capturing a Single Subject from Among Moving Subjects (Method C)
How to use tracking for photographing animals and vehicles, and whole area tracking off 1-point AF
This section covers how to continue photographing a single subject from among multiple subjects with tracking when shooting animals and vehicles, and how to lock the AF frame position so that it does not suddenly switch to another subject.
Tracking the main subject in scenes with obstructions such as grass, and when there are multiple subjects
Select [1-point AF] and set [Whole area tracking Servo AF] to [Enable].
This setting begins tracking with the AF frame. A small AF frame setting such as 1-point AF makes it easy to specify the subject you want to start tracking with.
Preventing the AF frame from suddenly switching to another subject
You can lock the AF frame by using whole area tracking off 1-point AF.
Also, when your desired subject is a bit distant from other subjects, disabling whole area tracking and using 1-point AF or expand AF area without the key icon allows you to track the area around the subject, preventing the AF frame from switching subjects.
Note
To switch between 1-point AF and tracking while shooting, see "5-4 Using 1-point AF and Tracking."
