2-5 Picture Style: HDR PQ, Custom Picture: PQ/HLG

This section covers the characteristics of three HDR-related settings.

HDR PQ recording at Picture Style settings
PQ at Custom Picture settings
HLG at Custom Picture Settings

As imaging at the three settings is explained in "1-2 Custom Picture and Picture Style 2," Picture Style tends toward still image styles captured on conventional EOS series models, and Custom Picture leans toward cinematic imaging styles. Both settings can be used for displaying high dynamic range images on HDR-supported devices without the need for color grading.

Also, advanced Picture Style menu settings, can be used to adjust the color and contrast, and Custom Picture settings can be used to adjust the color.

EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II support HDR, and use the PQ (Perceptual Quantization) and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) standards.

PQ (Picture Style HDR PQ or Custom Picture PQ) are intended for viewing on a monitor or TV that supports PQ, and HLG (Custom Picture setting HLG) is intended for viewing on a monitor or TV that supports HLG.

Make sure to choose the proper setting for your work flow, and the luminance/standard of your display device.

Also, the exposure standard differs for Picture Style HDR PQ and Custom Picture PQ.
