2-6 Base ISO/Dynamic Range

This section covers the Base ISO sensitivity* and dynamic range for each selected setting.

*The base ISO sensitivity required for ensuring the correct dynamic range.

Base ISO sensitivity and dynamic range

There is a base ISO sensitivity for ensuring the essential dynamic range at each setting (example: Canon Log 2: 1600%), and the base for Canon Log 2/Canon Log 3 is ISO 800.

Shooting with Canon Log 2/Canon Log 3 is possible even at a lower ISO setting, however, the dynamic range will be narrower, so caution is necessary.

The Base ISO and dynamic range changes in RAW shooting and depending on the Highlight tone priority settings in Picture Style, and for Custom Picture, the setting is locked to Base ISO 800 with a dynamic range of approximately 1600%.

To ensure you have the proper dynamic range, we recommend selecting Canon Log 2 or Canon Log 3, and if you are worried about noise, a lower Base ISO setting is best.
