1-4 Differences between SDR and HDR

HDR settings are compatible with HDR standard displays, and are capable of brighter display with a wider range of color, and SDR settings are for conventional displays that do not support HDR.

Differences between SDR and HDR settings

You can switch between SDR and HDR shooting settings on the camera for specific displays and environments where movies are viewed.

Compared to SDR displays, HDR displays offer brighter images.

Using HDR camera settings when shooting movie and still images makes it possible to capture brighter images for viewing on HDR displays and TVs, and enables a wider range of tone recreation.

SDR

This setting is for normal displays other than HDR specs.

HDR

This setting is for TVs and monitors capable of HDR high luminance display. On the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, there are three HDR settings: when set to Picture Style and HDR (PQ) is turned on, and when PQ/HLG is set to Custom Picture.

Also, on the EOS R5 Mark II, using [HDR Movie Mode] expands the recording range and output dynamic range for a wider range in recording and display. (When using [HDR Movie Mode], only Picture Style Standard is available.)
